John Hopkins hopes he can earn a chance to race for Suzuki in MotoGP again after rejoining the team for some filming work in Qatar today. Alonso: Lead battle too close to call
Fernando Alonso thinks there is little separating the top teams in Formula 1 at the end of pre-season testing - as he predicts that it will be small details that will decide the outcome of the first races of the campaign. Although many had singled out Red Bull Racing as favourite after its strong winter testing performance, a series of updates on the Ferrari helped Alonso deliver a strong race simulation run at Barcelona this week to hint at a very strong challenge from him too. And rather than feel that his team is playing catch-up to Red Bull Racing, Alonso says his confidence is as high as it was at the start of the last campaign – when Ferrari had gone into the year fighting for the championship.

Prince Harry poised to drive Top Gear Reasonably Priced Car?

Top Gear could be set to welcome royalty into the driver's seat of its reasonably priced Kia Cee'd. Prince Harry is reportedly eager to get behind the wheel and tackle the Top Gear test track in the next series of the popular BBC franchise, where he will attempt to best the 1:44.2 lap time set by Tom Cruise.
Prince Harry is used to handling high-speed machines, but they're typically of the airborne variety. He recently completed military training that qualifies him to fly Apache helicopters. The top speed of an Apache is listed at 182 miles per hour - a few ticks quicker than the Kia.

In case anyone was accusing supercharged, the 556-horsepower LSA V8 that powers the Cadillac CTS-V of lacking versatility, refer to this video and stand corrected. Custom boatbuilder Seven Marine has taken the enormously powerful engines and adapted them to a marine outboard application.
According to Seven Marine, its 557 is the most powerful outboard ever made. The grunt is channeled to the water through an electronically-controlled ZF transmission. The Seven Marine 557 is also the first outboard ever to be joystick-controlled.
According to Seven, it can be hung as a single-engine setup on a 25 to 27-foot boat, or in a double, triple or quad setup on boats ranging up to 55 feet. Seven Marine claims the engine should be good for a 10-20 percent efficiency and performance increase over standard onboard engines because it requires fewer gear sets to operate, which means less drag. IndyCar sets 26-car grid limit
IndyCar Series grids will be limited to 26 cars at every event except the Indianapolis 500 and the Las Vegas finale this year. The first 24 places in the starting line-up at the capped events will be set on qualifying pace, with another two 'provisionals' set aside initially for recent champions, then drivers in the top 22 in points before practice and qualifying times are considered. IndyCar entries have only occasionally exceeded 26 cars per race in recent years, but with slightly larger fields expected for some rounds this season, the series' competition chief Brian Barnhart said the time was right to set a limit.

Ogier not downcast over late error
Sebastien Ogier put a brave face on his late retirement from the lead of Rally Mexico, and is confident it will not be too great a blow to his title chances. The Citroen driver was battling to hold off his seven-time champion team-mate Sebastien Loeb after a weekend-long battle at the front of the field when he went off the road and broke his suspension three stages from the end of the rally. "I went a bit wide at the end of a corner, approximately at mid-stage, and I went off in the ditch and there was a rock," Ogier explained.

Think today's concept cars - like the ones recently unveiled at the currently ongoing Geneva Motor Show - are off the wall? They ain't got nothin' on what American automakers and independent engineers alike were coming up with circa the 1950s.
With the jet age throttling up to full speed, the concept cars of yesteryear embodied the unbridled optimism of post-war America. Today, of course, they seem as kitschy as an old Disneyland ride, but you can take that step back into the future that never was in the brief video after the jump. Just don't forget where you parked the DeLorean there, Marty.

Davies Dominates Vegas
Brad Davies completely dominated Week Two of the NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, leading 106 of 133 laps en route to the online racing victory. Davies put a bad run in the season opener at Daytona in the rear view mirror by starting on pole and never being challenged on the track, leaving the competition searching for answers. Josh Parker backed-up a strong Daytona run with a second place finish, followed by Derek Wood, Josh Berry and John Gorlinsky. Daytona winner Ray Alfalla finished seventh while defending series champion Richard Towler had trouble and wound up thirty-seventh. Patrick takes breakthrough fourth
Danica Patrick made history by taking the best ever finish for a female driver in a NASCAR National series event with fourth in Saturday's Nationwide Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The IndyCar star had a breakthrough race in NASCAR's second-tier series at the demanding mile-and-a-half oval where she made continuous progress through the 200 laps, recovering from a disappointing qualifying. Starting from 22nd, Patrick moved up all the way to 12th in the order right before the first round of pitstops and she was able to remain inside the top 15 until balance issues caused her to loose ground, eventually dropping a lap down entering the second half of the race

Petter Solberg has lost his chance of fighting for Rally Mexico victory after losing seven minutes on SS6. The Norwergian independent Citroen driver was running third behind factory Citroen duo Sebastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier after lunchtime service, and was therefore well-placed to gain ground tomorrow when he would have enjoyed better stage conditions than the two Frenchman once they were first and second on the road. Infiniti has no desire for Red Bull Racing's Renault engines to be rebadged under its own name as part of its commercial tie-up with the world championship-winning team, despite wild claims this week about such a move. Belgian Racing to run GT1 Fords
The second pair of Fords in this year's GT1 World Championship will be run under the Belgian Racing banner. The new team takes the place of Matech, which led the development of the Ford GT1 but has shelved its racing team for 2011, and will be run as a sister squad to fellow Ford runner Marc VDS. Belgian Racing will receive technical assistance from Marc VDS, which has called off its GT3 programme so it can transfer resources to supporting four cars in GT1.

James joins BTCC with ES Chevy
Chris James will make his British Touring Car Championship debut this year in a Chevrolet Lacetti run by his own Team ES Racing squad. James, whose Lacetti competed in the Swedish and Scandinavian series last year, said he was "excited, but nervous," to be moving up to the BTCC, and is keeping a lid on expectations. Kobayashi unsure of more overtaking
Kamui Kobayashi is unsure there will be more overtaking during the 2011 season despite the return of KERS and the introduction of the moveable rear wings. The Sauber driver reckons the fact that most teams will run KERS will mean its advantage is erased, and he is also unsure the current rules on moveable wings will make the system effective. "I don't believe the KERS will help because almost everybody has it," said Kobayashi.

Mercedes buyout ‘won’t change team’
No changes will be made to the way that Mercedes GP is run after Daimler AG and Aabar Investments took full control of the team, according to the German firm's motorsport boss Norbert Haug. It was announced this morning that Mercedes and Aabar had acquired the remaining 24.9 per cent of the team, which was owned by the five shareholders involved in the original management buyout of Honda in 2009 - Ross Brawn, Nick Fry, Caroline McGrory, John Marsden and Nigel Kerr.
