Citroën to launch new DS5 in Shanghai, on Facebook

With the DS3 hatchback already on the market and the DS4 crossover soon to reach dealers, Citroën has confirmed plans to launch the next model in its premium lineup next week at the Shanghai Motor Show.
We don't know much about the DS5 at this point, except to assume that it's likely based on the C5. Bearing in mind that the three-door DS3 is based on the five-door C3, and that the DS4 crossover is based on the C4 hatchback, there's no telling what body-style the DS5 will carry on the back of the C5 sedan. Given the latest industry trends, we're probably looking at a four-door coupe or five-door slant-back.
The car will be launched simultaneously with the Shanghai show floor debut on the French automaker's Facebook page.

The best thing about drag racing is that fast is never fast enough. After building a Chevrolet Camaro that comfortably waltzed down the quarter mile in under nine seconds, the crew at Lingenfelter are hell-bent on making the machine do the deed in even less time. As a result, the mad wrenches have worked up a 427-cubic-inch LSX engine with a pair of ported LS3 six-bolt heads. All projections have the mighty beating heart churning out somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,200 horsepower with the locomotive grunt getting channeled to the rear wheels via a TR6060 gearbox.
The company hasn't taken its new quarter-mile king to the track just yet, but it has been so kind as to slip the internet a peek at the machine on the dyno. According to the video after the jump, what you're seeing is a wide-open-throttle shift from third to fourth with both stages of nitrous in full glory. We're nearly positive that eons ago, this is why man tamed fire. Hit the jump to check out the action for yourself.

VW will happily sell you an armored last-gen Jetta... in Mexico

Personal protection is a big deal south of the border, and the people of Mexico reportedly spend upwards of $80 million per year on armored vehicles. When we think of armored cars, we tend to think about Chevy Tahoes and Ford Expeditions, but Volkswagen has for years offered a smaller, slightly more affordable option.
The Bora Protect is little more than a previous-generation Jetta, except it can stop a bullet. The no-doubt heavy little sedan costs about $70,000 in U.S. funds, but if that's what it takes to stop a high-velocity round from entering the cabin, it's likely money well spent. And as an added bonus, buyers of the Bora Protect receive the superior interior of the last-generation Jetta, as opposed to the cost-cut cabin of the current model.
And as you might expect, the base 115-horsepower 2.0-liter engine isn't the mill of choice when you're hauling several hundreds of pounds worth of Kevlar and other bullet blockers. For 70-large you also get the 200-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter mill mated to a six-speed DSG for (at least close to) proper motivation. Run-flat rubber makes shooting out the tires a less-fruitful endeavor, as well.
Something tells us that the 2.0T isn't quite as peppy under the hood of the Bora Protect as it is in the GLI, but then again, the Bora Protect is about stopping bullets, not driving like one.

Wards Automotive takes its 10 Best Interior awards seriously. The industry mag tested 51 vehicles to come up with this year's winners, which span three luxury vehicles, three economy cars, a sport sedan, a minivan, a family sedan and an SUV. Ward's AutoWorld Editor-in-Chief Drew Winter says the publication has never tested so many vehicles, adding, "Every auto maker wants the freshest, highest-quality interior possible for all the vehicles they sell."
Showing just how much the world of interiors has changed over the years, Chrysler was the only automaker to take home two awards, thanks to the Dodge Charger and Jeep Grand Cherokee, while Kia and Hyundai could technically say the same since the Elantra and Optima each took home honors. At the same time, both Toyota and Lexus were shut out, as was Honda's Acura luxury brand and Mercedes-Benz.

Lotus delighted with breakthrough race
Lotus technical chief Mike Gascoyne said the Malaysian Grand Prix marked the first time that the squad could really start racing its rivals, after an encouraging run to 15th for Heikki Kovalainen. Although the Finn did not manage to beat any of the established teams, he had sufficient pace to keep the likes of Toro Rosso, Force India and even Mercedes in sight at times. "Overall our pace was very good at the end, particularly when we were with the leading cars, and we were very close to passing one of the Toro Rossos as we came over the line which shows how we have progressed," said Gascoyne.

Baguette gets Rahal deal for Indy
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will run a second car in this year's Indianapolis 500 for Bertrand Baguette. Bobby Rahal's squad had already announced that it would field Jay Howard in collaboration with Sam Schmidt Motorsports, and has now added an entry in the #30 for Baguette. The 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 champion impressed in an IndyCar rookie campaign with Conquest Racing last year but was unable to put together a full-season deal for 2011.

Pedrosa undergoes successful surgery
Spanish rider Dani Pedrosa has undergone successful surgery to decompress his left subclavian artery. The operation, performed at the Teknon Medical Centre in Barcelona, was carried out in order to release the arterial compression, with the titanium plate and the screws fixed to Pedrosa's collarbone removed

It took a nearly perfect effort by Marcello Maio and Norbi Kiss to win Season 1A and Season 1B of iRacing’s NVIDIA Cup. How nearly perfect? In 175 laps of competition, Maio and Kiss led 174 laps. In case you’re wondering, Maio qualifies as the slacker of the two: He spent one lap of Season 1A in second place after qualifying his Mazda MX-5 second fastest for the first and only time. No matter, Maio quickly redressed that minor failing, went undefeated in seven races and was awarded an NVIDIA GTX 570 video card as champion of Season 1A. Series sponsor NVIDIA also rewarded Kiss for his efforts in Season 1B with a pair of NVIDIA 3D glasses and an ASUS monitor. There the similarities end in their championships, however. [...]

We’ve reached Week Nine in the NASCAR iRacing.com Class B Series (NiCBS), and every race is critical to a sim racer’s chance at a division championship, or the big title of “Series Champion.” A few online races can make or break your chances at the championship. Just ask NiCBS points leader, Kevin Bouhalassa who’s leading the series in overall points at 1,210. A bad race this late in the season could easily give the lead to Trevor Hunt, who is only sixteen points back. However, this week it was Chase Paduano’s time to shine. Hayden: Ducati fantastic in the wet

Objective items like a motorist's age and driving record are the most-weighted factors insurers consider, but those items among a couple of dozens of things used to figure out what your premiums will be. Included in the CarInsurance.com graphic are stats like 2010's most-expensive car to insure, the Porsche 911 GT2, and the least, the Mazda Tribute.
Behind driving record, age and marital status are factors like what you drive, your gender, your state and credit rating. While lots of the factors are things drivers have some control over, a small part of the insurance rate you pay comes down to what company you choose to go with and which policy you buy. Tracy gets part-time Dragon deal
Paul Tracy will contest five IndyCar races, starting in Long Beach, with Jay Penske's re-formed Dragon Racing team. Penske, son of Tracy's long-time CART Champ Car team boss Roger Penske, has kept his team alive after separating from former partner Gil de Ferran, who had been unable to find funding to keep their De Ferran Dragon joint operation going despite signing Tony Kanaan for 2011.

Suzuki buoyed by Hopkins’ form
Suzuki team boss Paul Denning believes John Hopkins' form on his return to MotoGP proves both that the American still deserves a top-line ride, and that the Suzuki is an under-rated bike. In his first MotoGP event since the end of 2008, Superbike convert Hopkins qualified 14th at Jerez today, just 1.5 seconds down on polesitter Casey Stoner's Honda.

Paper clip-shaped Martinsville Speedway was the host for Week Eight of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series, and with the NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship event next up on the track’s schedule, there was a lot to be gained. Bumping and banging was not only expected, it was perfected at this half mile track. Not everyone was up for the challenge, while a few sim racers shined under the pressure. Daniel Pope II backed-up his first real world late model win of the year by taking top honors in the NiCAS this week, scoring 308 points, edging-out Kevin King by six markers. Aliens Land at Zandvoort
Trans Tasman’s Madison Down was back for Race Two of Monday’s online racing event in the iRacing.com V8 Supercar Series amid the dunes of Zandvoort, bringing a collective (good-natured) groan from the rest of the field. Down snared pole position from Dylan Sharman in the VRS Falcon, while Wayne Harris and Darrin Vouch put on their best qualifying performances to date to grab third and fourth respectively. Next came Simon Black, Peter Kastanaras, Mark Rayner, Edward Van Velsen, Marty Atkins in a very impressive qualifying result, then Richard Lock rounding-out the top ten. Christensen leads GP3 test
Mucke driver Michael Christensen was quickest on the final day of this week's three-day GP3 test at Silverstone today. The Dane hit the front during the windy afternoon session with a 1m51.799s lap, beating Status' Alexander Sims by just under a tenth of a second. Nico Muller (Jenzer), Mitch Evans (MW Arden) and Rio Haryanto (Manor) completed the top five.
