WRC timing firm to miss Monte Carlo
The World Rally Championship's expert timing firm Stage One Technology will not be in Monte Carlo for next week's season-opener after it was unable to find agreement with the administrators of North One Sports. After working for two days to try and ensure continuity in the timing and tracking systems used in the WRC, Stage One Technology managing director Simon de Banke has this evening confirmed to AUTOSPORT that he and his firm will not be going to the Monte Carlo Rally.

Back in October, AutoblogGreen reported that the all-electric crossover from Tesla, the Model X, would be revealed ahead of the 2012 Detroit Auto Show? Well, scratch that. That information was, apparently, inaccurate. Dubitable. Counterfactual even. Instead, it seems that February 9 marks the day the X is to be spotted.
The news comes courtesy of the enthusiasts over at the Tesla Motor Club forum. A member read in a recent copy of Barclays Capital research report that the Tesla's design studio in LA would be the setting for the Model X reveal. AutoblogGreen contacted Tesla to confirm, and was told that, "Yes, there will be a February 9th Model X event."
The upcoming reveal won't have been its first, however. The vehicle was shown to some institutional investor types just before Christmas and, going by a handful of tweets that went out across the internetz shortly thereafter, they were impressed. Quicker than a Porsche 911 and roomier than an Audi Q7, they say. Throw in all-wheel drive and this could get pretty interesting.

Official: Volvo plugging XC60 hybrid concept in Detroit

With the new year in full swing and the Detroit Auto Show now just days away, the new debuts have been rolling in. And here we have Volvo's centerpiece for the rapidly approaching auto expo: the Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept.
Based, as you might have guessed, on the production XC60 crossover, this technological concept packs a similar drivetrain to the V60 Plug-in Hybrid that just entered production. While its stouter counterpart utilizes a diesel to fill out the internal-combustion side of the hybrid equation, the XC60 concept packs a gasoline engine: those front wheels are driven by a 280-horsepower turbo four coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with a 70hp electric motor driving the rear wheels for through-the-road all-wheel drive.
The result is what Volvo stretches to claim is a 100 mpg fuel economy rating in hybrid mode, 35 miles on electric propulsion alone, or a 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds using the battery as a booster. Citroen gives Neuville WRC chance
Citroen will bring Intercontinental Rally Challenge stand-out Thierry Neuville into the World Rally Championship next season. The 22-year-old Belgian will drive a Citroen Racing Technologies-prepared DS3 WRC in at least nine rounds of the 2012 WRC, alongside regular co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul. Baltimore terminates Grand Prix contract
Baltimore terminated its contract with the organizers of the Baltimore Grand Prix on Friday and opened the door to others interested in continuing the race in future years. The city had warned last month that it would terminate its contract with Baltimore Racing Development after the first year of the five-year pact if the group failed to pay $1.5 million owed to the city by the end of the year.

Study: UK survey says Honda models most "pothole-proof"

A new study by Warranty Direct in the UK claims Honda makes vehicles that are the least-susceptible to damage from potholes. According to the company, only 1.4 percent of Honda owners submit a warranty claim for repair due to pothole damage. Compare that figure with the 12.2 percent of Chrysler owners who submit claims - the American automaker found itself the least resilient to pothole damage alongside luxury makes like Land Rover, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Surprisingly enough, Smart actually landed itself in second place for the number of claims submitted as a result of pothole damage.
Economical brands like Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan and Kia all fare well against rough pavement, however. We're not surprised by the outcome. Luxury vehicles are more likely to be equipped with low-profile tires and large, expensive wheels that can easily be bent or broken under the right circumstances. Budget vehicles, meanwhile, make due with meaty sidewalls and sturdy steel wheels. Head over to What Car for the full rankings.

Defending NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (NiCCS) Champion Ashley Miller showcased his talent once again in the series by taking the overall win during Week Six of the 2011 Season Four season at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Miller’s victory in the 3012 Sterngth of Field (SoF) race on Tuesday put him over the top for Round Six with 188 points. New bid to bring F1 back to Argentina
Designers of a new circuit being constructed in Argentina are aiming for the venue to host the nation's first Formula 1 grand prix since 1998. Webber targets drivers for Challenge
Mark Webber has targeted a number of top drivers for upcoming editions of his charity adventure race, the Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge. The 2011 edition of the event, which featured former V8 Supercar champion Rick Kelly among the entrants, ended on Sunday, having raised money for the Save the Tassie Devil appeal and the Whitelion youth charity Red Bull driver Webber, who took part in the first day of competition, was himself a regular competitor in the event - which features cycling, kayaking and trekking - in the past, while fellow grand prix winner Heikki Kovalainen has also taken part.
