Perez remaining realistic after Malaysia

Sergio Perez is not get carried away with his brilliant performance in the Malaysian Grand Prix, but still thinks his maiden victory could be just around the corner. The Sauber driver challenged Fernando Alonso hard for a race win in Sepang, but lost his chance when he ran wide near the end of the race - handing his Ferrari rival enough of a buffer at the front to hold on until the chequered flag. But although he was the quickest man on track in Sepang, Perez does not believes this marks the start of a regular push for victory at forthcoming races

Geneva: Peugeot brings the 208 party to Geneva

2012 Peugeot 208

The successor to the Peugeot 207 line, the 208, made an appearance under the lights of the Geneva Motor Show this week. Buyers in the EU may choose from either the three-door body style you see above or a more functional five-door configuration. Both vehicles feature smaller exterior dimensions than the old 207 but with greater interior volume than their predecessors. Peugeot also shrank the available gasoline engine options in the 208. A 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine serves up a heady 75 horsepower, though consumers looking for a little more grunt may step up to a 1.2-liter three pot good for 100 hp.

All told, the 208 is available in five different configurations, including a range of diesel-powered options that include Peugeot's next-generation stop/start system, which helps return nearly 83.1 mpg on the EU scale. Not too shabby.

Peugeot 208 GTi Concept

Want something a little hotter? How about the Peugeot 208 GTi Concept (above left)? In addition to more aggressive body work, larger brakes and flashier 18-inch alloy wheels, the vehicle packs the same 1.6-liter engine as found in the company's RCZ. That means buyers can expect to find somewhere between 156 and 200 turbocharged horsepower kicking through a six-speed manual transmission. How's that for a win?

Meanwhile, the 208 XY Concept (above right)wears more flash than actual go. With a color-shifting purple paint, unique interior treatments and a 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine, this hatch is meant more for prowling city centers than corner carving.

Honda sits out second day of testing

The Honda team has decided not to run in today's testing session at Sepang following an engine problem on Tuesday. The team said that due to an engine failure on Dani Pedrosa's RC213V machine yesterday, HRC decided to send the engine to Japan for analysis. Honda said the results of the analysis were positive, but the heavy rain on track meant the team decided not to run.

No penalty for Keselowski over tweet

Brad Keselowski will not be penalised despite sending 'tweets' while behind the wheel of his race car during a red-flag period of Monday's Daytona 500. The Penske driver tweeted a picture and the word "Fire" while still sitting on his car right after the race was halted, following Juan Pablo Montoya's crash with a jet-dryer, 40 laps from the scheduled end of the event. He sent further tweets after that in response to some of his followers and was even spotted on the TV broadcast while using his phone, once drivers were allowed out of their cars during the red-flag interruption, which took more than two hours

Williams: Low-speed form key to pace

Williams needs to improve its car's low-speed performance if it is to make progress up the grid, reckons chief operations engineer Mark Gillan. Although the team is convinced that the FW34 is a step forward over last year's disappointing challenger, the Grove-based outfit already understands the areas where things need to be made even better. "Obviously, you've got to concentrate on where the maximum performance gains will be had," explained Gillan about Williams' focus going forward

Long-time British Touring Car Championship team owner Roger Dowson has died at the age of 67 after a battle with cancer. Dowson is probably best-remembered for masterminding Mazda's entry into the BTCC in the early 1990s, but his involvement with the series stretched back 20 years earlier when he was kingpin in Gerry Marshall's tin-top campaigns.
